Gold trading hours in UAE time: spot, futures and CFDs
Ali Almesfer · Reviewed 13 October 2026
Gold has no single worldwide opening bell. Standard COMEX Gold (GC) futures trade from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon in US Eastern time with a one-hour daily break; in the UAE the trading week usually starts early Monday morning.
Your broker's 'gold' button might represent a futures contract, a spot-price CFD, an ETF or physical metal. Check the instrument name before using any timetable. The local time below refers to standard COMEX Gold futures (GC), not every gold product.
COMEX GC futures: the UAE clock
CME publishes GC trading as Sunday–Friday, 6:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, with a 60-minute daily break beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET. The UAE conversion follows from the eight- or nine-hour difference. Exchange holidays and contract-specific notices can alter the schedule; confirm the live CME calendar before trading.

London gold, shops, ETFs and broker CFDs
The LBMA Gold Price is a benchmark auction set twice daily at 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. London time. Those moments are price-setting events, not the only hours when gold can be traded. London daylight saving also changes their UAE clock equivalents during the year.
For a UAE reader, the two London auction starts are 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. GST while London observes summer time, or 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. GST in London winter time. These are benchmark-auction starts, not a window in which a retail order is guaranteed to execute or a live price feed from LBMA.
A physical dealer trades during its own business hours and adds fabrication, storage or buy–sell spread. A gold ETF trades on the exchange where its units are listed. A broker's XAU/USD CFD follows that broker's product schedule and may pause for maintenance or holidays. A CFD gives price exposure rather than ownership of a bar. CME also publishes separate conditions for its 1-ounce gold futures contract, including weekend trading; do not assume that exception applies to standard GC futures.
When the market is open does not mean the price is equally good
Spreads and available depth can change when major dealing centres open, around economic releases and near a daily pause. No clock hour guarantees a better entry price. Compare the bid–ask spread shown in your actual product and the size of your order, especially immediately after a weekend or holiday.
Gold futures have contract size, expiry and margin requirements. A CFD may add overnight financing. A physical purchase has different delivery and storage questions. The form of exposure matters more than a generic claim that gold trades '24/5'.
Check these four details before trading gold
Identify the exact instrument: physical gold, fund unit, GC future, 1-ounce future or CFD.
Check its venue or broker's current holiday, maintenance and order-acceptance hours in UAE time.
Read the live spread, commission, margin, rollover or storage charge that applies to your account.
Confirm whether you will own gold or merely hold a contract linked to its price.

A spread example for a small gold order
Suppose a provider quotes a hypothetical bid of USD 2,990 and ask of USD 3,000 per ounce. Buying at the ask and immediately selling at the bid would lose USD 10 per ounce before any commission or price movement. The USD 10 is a spread, not a forecast. A provider may widen that spread near a weekend, a thin period or a volatile announcement.
For a physical purchase, compare the price you pay with the dealer's same-day buyback quote for the exact purity and form. Fabrication and storage can create a larger round-trip gap than a headline spot price suggests. For a futures or CFD position, also check contract size and margin: a small deposit can control a much larger gold exposure, so a modest price move can be large relative to your cash.
A weekend or maintenance break in practice
If a GC trader checks the screen during CME's daily maintenance break, the last displayed trade may be old. New orders can be queued or rejected according to the broker and exchange rules, and the first available price after reopening may differ from that last trade. A stop order is not a guarantee of execution at the stop price when trading resumes.
The weekend is longer for standard GC. A dealer may still publish indicative gold prices, and a separate 1-ounce product may have different weekend access. Neither observation proves that a standard GC order can execute. Before holding a position through a closure, inspect the product's calendar, margin policy and available cash rather than treating a nearly round-the-clock market as continuously liquid.
Why the GC contract size matters more than the opening hour
CME describes a standard GC future as 100 troy ounces. At a purely hypothetical gold price of USD 3,000 per ounce, one contract references USD 300,000 of metal value. A one-dollar-per-ounce price change would change the contract's value by about USD 100 before fees. The cash posted as margin is not the maximum possible loss; it is collateral against a much larger exposure.
A smaller futures contract is still a futures contract with margin, expiry and product-specific hours. A 1-ounce product's weekend timetable should not be copied onto standard GC. If the amount of exposure is unclear, calculate contract units multiplied by the quoted price and price move before trading. The same chart can conceal very different cash consequences across products.
Why London and US clock changes need separate checks
The UAE remains on GST all year, while London and New York change clocks on their own schedules. The LBMA benchmark's Dubai time follows London's clock; COMEX GC follows US Eastern time. During weeks when the UK and US have switched on different dates, a saved 'gold hours in Dubai' chart can be correct for one venue and wrong for another.
Convert each venue independently for the trade date. For an LBMA benchmark, start from 10:30 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. London time. For GC, start from CME's Eastern Time timetable and include the daily break. For a CFD or physical dealer, use the provider's own current hours. Then check whether the displayed quote is live and executable, rather than merely the last published price.
A benchmark value is not a retail buy or sell quote
The LBMA Gold Price is set in London auctions and published under the benchmark's data arrangements. A Dubai dealer can use a benchmark as one input while adding fabrication, delivery, storage or a buyback spread. A CFD provider can reference spot gold but quote its own bid and ask. Even at the same moment, those retail prices need not equal the benchmark value.
For a decision, compare what you would pay now, what you could receive if you sold immediately, and when each price can actually be dealt. State the product, quantity and currency in that comparison. This is more useful than choosing an hour solely because a website calls it the most active gold session.

What time does the gold market open on Monday in Dubai?+
Standard COMEX GC futures usually resume at 2:00 a.m. GST during US daylight time or 3:00 a.m. GST during US standard time. A broker's CFD or a physical dealer can have a different schedule.
Is gold trading open 24 hours a day?+
Not for every product. Standard GC futures have a daily maintenance break and close for the weekend. Other gold products follow their own venue or dealer hours.
Is the LBMA gold price an exchange opening time?+
No. The LBMA Gold Price is set at two daily benchmark auctions in London. It does not define the only times at which gold trades.
Risk warning
Gold prices can fall. Futures and leveraged CFDs can magnify losses and may involve margin calls or overnight charges. Check the exact product schedule and terms before trading.
